The NU Blue Hammer project started nearly a year ago when the PBA first communicated with the bowling ball manufacturers about potential changes to the ball specifications, including urethane bowling balls. Based on these communications, Hammer believed that the PBA would move forward with eliminating urethane bowling balls on the PBA Tour and possibly for their other competitions, including PBA50+, Regional, and Youth tournaments. Because of this, they started a ball development project to create a urethane-type ball motion using some of the materials found in reactive balls, and their goal was to reproduce the Hammer Purple Pearl Urethane ball reaction with a coverstock that absorbed oil for improved performance consistency and hitting power. After several months and extensive testing, Hammer discovered a ball that hit our targets – the NU Blue Hammer!
